When to use Power Point?
What is Power Point?
Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation tool developed by Dennis Austin and Robert Gaskins of software company Forethought, Inc. It was originally released on April 20, 1987 for Macintosh computers only. Three months after its release, PowerPoint was purchased by Microsoft for about $14 million. This is Microsoft’s first major acquisition, and in Silicon Valley, where Forethought is headquartered, Microsoft has established a new PowerPoint business unit.
History of Microsoft Power Point
At the Silicon Valley software startup Forethought, Inc., Robert Gaskins and Dennis Austin created PowerPoint. In order to create integrated environments and software for forthcoming personal computers with graphical user interfaces, Forethought was established in 1983. However, the business encountered issues that necessitated a “reboot” and new approach.
On July 5, 1984, Forethought appointed Robert Gaskins as his vice president of product development in order to create a new application specifically suited for modern graphics personal computers (such Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh).

PowerPoint Viewer
- The name PowerPoint Viewer refers to a set of free, compact applications that can be used to view, project, or print presentations, but not create or edit them, on computers that do not have PowerPoint software installed.
