Recycling To Create A Better In San Francisco
Good News
In 2009, San Francisco made recycling and composting a requirement for all businesses and homes. It passed the first mandatory composting law in the United States. San Francisco also ban the use of environmentally harmful objects, such as cashier bags and foam plastic.
Ultimately, San Francisco’s goal is zero waste. This means that the recycling, composting, recycling and reducing consumption, so as not to have anything into a landfill or incineration.
Bad News
The United States used to transfer a lot of its plastic waste to China for recycling. But last year, China has banned the import of waste. The policy is known as the “national blade”, shocked the American public. The plastic waste industry has just dried up; leading to a lot of plastic ending up in landfills, despite consumers’ good intentions.
Where do I Recycle
Bottles and Cans – Aluminum, glass, plastic, and bi-metal beverage containers are subject to California Redemption Value (CRV), and you can get paid 5 cents for containers less than 24 ounces, and 10 cents for containers 24 ounces or larger.

Tires – If you have waste tires for recycling, for a fee, you can drop them off at Recology, 501 Tunnel Avenue, San Francisco.
Used Oil – One gallon of motor oil can pollute up to 1 million gallons of water!
